Pizza is one of the fastest-growing industries in the UK, with more than 50 million pizzas sold weekly. It’s also one of the most popular foods in the country, with over 25 per cent of all adult UK citizens eating pizza at least once a month.

As you can imagine, this has increased demand for pizza supplies like dough trays. A good pizza dough tray can be used to make various pizza types, including cheese pizzas, pepperoni pizzas and even dessert pizzas! Our pizza dough trays are also the perfect way to keep your pizza dough fresh, warm and ready to be stretched into a delicious pizza.

What Makes the Best Pizza Dough Tray?

Pizza dough trays are a staple in any pizza restaurant. They can come in all shapes and sizes, but what makes the best pizza dough tray?

Here are some of the main qualities to look for when buying a pizza dough tray:

Food Grade Material

The first thing to consider is whether or not your tray is made from food-grade material. It’s important that your new tray be made from a material that won’t leave any harmful residue on your pizza dough or ruin your oven. If you’re looking for a high-quality product, then you should buy one that is made from stainless steel or aluminium. These materials are safe for use in the kitchen and won’t contaminate your food like other materials might do (such as plastic).

Dishwasher Safe

Any good pizza dough tray should be dishwasher safe so you can easily clean it after use. Some of the cheaper models might say they are dishwasher safe, but they aren’t meant for that kind of treatment, so you will want to make sure before purchasing one of these products that it is dishwasher safe before buying it! Also, make sure that you check the manufacturer’s instructions before putting any item into your dishwasher just so you don’t damage anything in the process!

Stacking Capability

The best pizza dough trays can be stacked without damaging or warping them. This is important because most people store their trays in cabinets or other areas with limited space. If your trays cannot stack, they will take up considerably more space than necessary, making them inconvenient to use.

Moisture & Stain Resistant

A good pizza tray should be moisture resistant so that it does not absorb any moisture from your hands while handling it during preparation or cooking time. It also needs to be stain-resistant so that grease does not stain its surface and ruin its appearance after repeated use.

An Air Tight Lid

Another thing that makes a good dough tray is its airtight lid. This helps in keeping your dough fresh for long hours without it getting stale or losing its crispiness. Ideally, you should check if there is an airtight lid on your chosen product before buying it as it can make all the difference between having a tasty crust and one that’s flat and boring!

Shape

The shape of your pizza dough tray is also very important. The best option here is one that allows you to knead and roll out your dough without worrying about it sticking to the sides or bottom of the pan (which can sometimes happen with rectangular shapes). Round or oval-shaped trays tend to work best for this purpose.

Pizza Dough Tray Material

Pizza dough trays are made from several different materials, and each material has its own unique benefits. Some of these materials include:

Polypropylene

This is an economical material used in making pizza dough trays. It has good thermal stability and is resistant to impact damage and scratches. However, it cannot withstand high temperatures and this makes it unsuitable for heating up food items or liquids.

Polycarbonate

This is another type of plastic that is used in making dough trays but it is more expensive than polypropylene. It has excellent impact strength, scratch resistance and good thermal stability but it cannot tolerate extreme temperatures like polypropylene does.

ABS Plastic

ABS plastic is the most popular choice of material for baking trays. It is strong, durable, and easy to clean. It’s also dishwasher safe, so you don’t have to worry about any bacteria getting stuck in the cracks and crevices of your pizza dough tray. But its only drawback is that it cannot withstand high temperatures like other types of plastics can do.

Teflon Co-Polymer

Teflon Co-Polymer is a unique material that has been developed by DuPont specifically for use in baking trays. The material has excellent non-stick properties and can be used with all types of dough, including gluten-free, no-knead and wholemeal varieties. It also doesn’t absorb any odours or stains, so can be cleaned easily after each use.

We also sell Plastic Attached Lid Containers, Plastic Crates, Plastic Dollies, Plastic Pallet Boxes and Plastic Pallets

Choose the right of the pizza dough trays

Our trays are available in various sizes to meet your needs. Depending on the size, every tray accommodates almost 10 dough balls. You may also invest in larger models for your commercial purposes. These dough trays will be highly useful regardless of the type of pizza you prepare.

Materials used for pizza-proofing trays

Wood was traditionally used for designing the proofing trays and containers. Although they look unique and aesthetic, they have some disadvantages. That is why we recommend buying our plastic pizza dough trays, which help you manage your pizzas safely and efficiently.

Moreover, our innovatively designed pizza dough trays have a smooth, non-stick surface for the best performance. It will be easier for you to take the dough out of the trays. Made from food-grade plastics, our dough trays will not contaminate your food. Besides, you can clean them effortlessly to maintain hygiene in your pizza manufacturing facility.

Although our plastic trays are lightweight, they can endure harsh environments in your manufacturing unit. The plastic trays with commercial-quality construction have a lustre finish that makes them look premium. Due to their lateral reinforcements and thickness, these pizza dough trays are resistant and long-lasting.

Ergonomic and safe for your use

Like plastic baking trays, our pizza dough trays have rounded edges to ensure safe use. Their designs are reinforced on every side. Besides, some pizza dough trays come with handles to let you grip them conveniently.

Compliant with standards

We understand compliance is highly important for professionals in the food industry. Our materials for our pizza dough trays have made them compliant with the latest regulations. The plastic will not transmit detrimental substances to your dough balls.

Stackable design

If your manufacturing unit has space constraints, these stackable pizza dough trays will be the right solution. They provide a smarter and better storage option for your dough balls. Although there are no lids, your dough balls will be safe. There are grooves to make the pizza dough trays easy to stack.

The stackable design will be advantageous if you want to move the trays manually or with trolleys. The trays will sit firmly on each other. Besides, the structure of the trays allows you to put them into your refrigerators. The cross-stack feature is also effective for maximizing cooling. Thus, buy the best quality pizza dough trays from our shop to store and transport your pizza dough balls.

Our pizza dough trays are available at a reasonable rate. Check the dimension and other details to buy a number of trays. You can also use these trays for storing your bread and other items.

Types of Pizza Dough Trays

Dough trays are important for your pizza’s desired rise and the perfect texture although they are not placed in the oven because of their plastic material.

However, for utmost efficiency in creating an ideal environment for the dough to rise, the pizza dough trays come in different types, including;

Stackable Trays

These plastic pizza trays come in a predesigned shape and structure that lets them get stacked on top of each other without affecting the contents in the dough trays. The plastic feature makes the trays easy to clean and very durable. The unique features structured with the stackable trays make them perfect for holding portioned or proofed dough.

Perforated Trays

Perforated trays have small holes on their surface that allow for better air circulation and ventilation of the dough when proofing. The better airflow is also significant in achieving uniform fermentation and the desired texture for your pizza’s crust. The food-grade plastics used in making the trays maintain perfect dough conditions, preventing overly moist status at the bottom of the trays.

The perforation on the pizza dough trays is even more suitable for pizza dough and other types of dough, especially important for bakeries with high pizza baking volumes.

Deep Dish Trays

The key characteristic of deep-dish trays is their greater depth than other dough trays. The greater depth is also characterised by higher sides with several height inches. This makes the deep-dish trays the best option for holding dough for deep-dish pizzas such as the Chicago-style ones.

The increased side heights of the deep dish trays also create enough space to accommodate extra dough toppings for pizzas.

Usage Tips and Recommendations

Your pizza’s dough quality is dependent on your plastic dough trays and ensuring the pizza meets the standard food safety. However, a lot of facts go into maintaining the dough trays; here are a few facts you may need to consider while using the trays to maintain their efficiency;

Clean After Every Use

In line with standard food safety recommendations, you need to clean the tray with a food-safe cleaning solution and hot water, to help remove all stuck residue and contaminants. However, after every wash, it is important to dry the dough tray completely before storing any dough on it.

Apply Oil or Flour on the Tray

You must have encountered sticky dough occasionally, so to prevent dough from sticking on the tray, apply oil or flour on the surface. The prior application will also help to easily remove any stubborn sticky dough particles on the tray.

Proper Stacking

If you need to stack the strays, you must ensure you stack them securely to maximise space. You must also ensure the weight of the stacked trays has no effect on the dough in the lower trays.

Why Plastic?

Pizza dough trays are good for dough proofing and storage in different baking kitchens, but why plastic?

Durability

High-quality plastics are structured to withstand the frequent wear of daily commercial use. The hard plastic material used is often resistant to damage from moisture and temperature fluctuations. This is why you can use the dough trays for all your refrigeration purposes to proof the dough.

Lightweight

Plastic is lightweight, making it easy to handle the dough trays whether you need to clean it or move it. This is beneficial when you have to use them in a busy commercial kitchen where there has to be frequent movement of trays filled with dough.

Easy Cleaning

Plastic dough trays have smooth internal surfaces, which means they are easy to clean since the smooth surfaces do not trap any food particles. The plastic surfaces on the tray, therefore, reduce the risk of cross-contamination, therefore promoting food safety.

Various Sizes

Every bakery business can have plastic pizza dough trays that suit their dough preferences because of the different tray sizes. The pizza dough tray’s flexibility also helps to keep all prepared dough proofed effectively.

Moisture Control

Properly proofed dough retains its moisture levels to help achieve the desired texture and flavour of the final pizza. Therefore, plastic trays are good at controlling the moisture levels in the dough, preventing excessive drying and sticking.

Pizza Dough Trays FAQs

How do I clean my pizza dough tray?

After using the tray, it is best to clean it immediately so as not to leave any food residue on it. The best way to clean your pizza dough tray is to wash it with hot water and soap, as this will ensure that there are no bacteria left on the trays that could make people sick.

How do I store my pizza dough trays?

The best way to store the trays is in a cool, dry place. If exposed to moisture, the dough may mould or develop fungus, which will cause it to spoil. You can also store them in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to two days.

What are some of the benefits of using dough trays?

Dough trays are very convenient because they allow you to make multiple pizzas at once. They also make it easy for you to create uniform shapes and thicknesses that can help improve your baking skills.

Why should I use a Pizza Dough Tray?

A pizza dough tray allows you to take control of the cooking process, so you can make sure your pizza comes out exactly how you want it to. By using a pizza dough tray, you can proof your pizza at the temperature and for the amount of time that suits your tastes best.

Whether you have a commercial bakery or a pizzeria, our specially designed trays will keep the dough fresh. The versatile trays will meet the various needs of your pizza business. So, you can use them for proofing pizza dough balls. Check our collection of pizza dough trays and make a purchase.

Why does your pizza dough need proofing?

Proofing is a process that takes place after you have shaped the dough. During this time, the dough is allowed to rise, increasing its volume. Our perforated plastic trays are ideal for pizza dough proofing as they provide a sanitary environment for fermentation before baking.

You can buy pizza dough trays in bulk if you need to create several pizzas every day. The perforated design helps control humidity and temperature, creating the ideal environment for yeast activity.

The yeast applied to your dough takes time to undergo fermentation, resulting in a more complex flavour profile. This is especially important for pizza crusts and crusty breads.
