Recycling bins are basically containers for temporary storage of recyclable waste. They are a very commonly used commodity. You would come across them almost everywhere, ranging from households and small offices to localities and large warehouses. The items that are not recyclable are desirably collected in a different bin and are sent to landfills, compost pits, etc. These include liquid waste, food waste, organic waste and many more.

Why have Recycling bins?

Wherever you live or work, the place needs to be kept clean according to standards. Forget standards; you need a neat and tidy surrounding to live comfortably as well as be productive. With our Onit Direct recyclable bins, you can keep your facility free of clutter and maximise your outputs.

Most establishments include bins of various colours to simplify the waste disposal process further. This is in order to segregate waste according to type, keeping in mind that different types of waste require different disposal processes, whether it is incineration, landfills, compost pits or recycling. Another way of segregating wastes is by simply dividing them into dry and wet wastes. This method is commonly used in public places to avoid confusion among the general public.

Our Onit Direct bins are available in bright and solid colours for this very purpose of waste segregation. Not only that, there is ample space provided on the body for you to stick up printed labels so that it becomes easier for the consumers to segregate their wastes. It is surprising how one small change can drastically change your workspace.

Versatility at its best

With us, you will be stunned to look at how many options are possible when it comes to waste bins. At Onit Direct, we have quite a many types of them in order to suit a variety of industries.

Furthermore, within each type come numerous size and colour options. You can opt for different kinds of lids or no lids at all if it pleases you. For example, warehouses require heavy-duty bins that are tough, durable and have a large capacity. They need to have enough space for the huge amount of waste generated as well as for large articles.

Bakeries and eateries, on the other hand, may need a couple of moderately sized bins that are easy to open and close owing to the high turnover of customers. They also require to be made of heat stable food grade plastics. We also have bins appropriate for use at meat shops and meat processing units. These have self-closing lids and are relatively easy to clean. It ensures less litter and also keeps in check the bad odour.

Moreover, you can also add your company logo on the body or lid to make it more customised to your setup.

How to Purchase the Right Recycling Bin

Although recycling bins are designed to serve the same purpose—waste management—it’s imperative to choose the right type for your applications and floor space. We have different types of recycling bins available to ensure you get the perfect one for your applications.

Consider recycling bin placement.

Before buying recycling bins, you should know where you will be placing them throughout the facility. Look at where waste is generated in the facility and the most convenient places to collect it. When you have a good idea of the waste flow in the facility, you can better determine the optimal placement of the bins.

Each location may require different types of recycling solutions depending on the area. For instance, front-of-the-house areas may require different types of bins than back-of-the-house areas like kitchens, meeting rooms and external collection areas.

Also, different areas may require different recycling bin designs. Schools may need waste and recycling bins placed against the wall, whereas convention centres may need bins accessible from all traffic points.

Considering these considerations ensures you get the right size and design of recycling bins for your applications.

Select the capacity of the recycling bin

The capacity of the recycle bin depends on the volume of the waste you generate or the size of the property. When considering the size, you should also determine whether you need the bins for indoor and outdoor placement.

When selecting the size, you will need to consider your foot traffic. The higher the foot traffic, the higher the bin capacity you will need.

Opening shapes

If you’re going for waste segregation, you may also need the recycling bins to be colour-coded to help users identify where the respective waste goes. This is extremely helpful if you have an ongoing recycling program.

Where possible, the openings should also be restrictive, which can be effective in helping people make the right decision when disposing of the different types of waste. If you choose to go with recycling bins with restrictive openings, ensure the top cover is removable for easy emptying of the bins.

Graphics

Recycling bins provide premium marketing and branding space. You can also use this space to communicate what needs to go into the respective bins and other necessary warnings and information.

Clear and concise graphics can help build awareness of a recycling program and increase the chances of users recycling correctly. Onit Direct can provide customised printing in a request for the company logo and other details to ensure we deliver the recycle bins ready for use.

How our recycling bins help the environment

The main purpose of a recycling bin is to store waste that is generated in our establishments. It keeps our surroundings free of garbage and minimises land and water pollution. It helps our environment in more ways than you may think of:

Considerably reduces landfill content

This happens because recycling becomes possible when a ton of recyclable waste is collected for the process instead of haphazard and inconsiderate disposal of the same.

Helps Animals

Animals don’t end up consuming harmful plastic or toxic wastes. Such consumption can result in choking, death, intestinal obstruction, genetic alteration, etc.

Reduces carbon emissions

Recycling the collected waste also reduces carbon emissions, owing to the lesser need for further mass production of plastics and other materials. Thus it aids in decreasing carbon footprints and minimises the impact of global warming.

It supports sustainability and aids in the conservation of resources at every possible step.

Isn’t it surprising how instalment of recycling bins can have such a huge impact on the planet? Let Onit Direct help you cleanse, organise and rebuild your establishment.

One way your company or factory can show a genuine effort at conserving the environment is by implementing a waste sorting policy. All you have to do is figure out the recycling bins and where to set them up. Having the right recycling bins goes a long way in your environmental effort.

At Plastic Trays, we have an extensive range of recycling bins to suit different commercial needs. This range means you can choose a bin suitable for your needs and applications.

What is Selective Sorting?

Selective sorting is the action of sorting waste according to its nature. Some of the types of waste you can sort include cardboard, paper, wood, glass or metal, among others. This makes it easier to process and recycle some of the waste generated by your institution or facility.

Recycling bins are an essential part of the selective sorting process. They ensure that your employees throw waste in their respective designations, which is why buying the right type of recycling bin is crucial.

What to Consider When Buying Recycling Bins

Although recycling bins might not be central to your operations, taking time to pick out the proper bins will go a long way in furthering your recycling goals and encouraging your staff to dispose of them the right way. Some of the factors you should consider when buying the recycling bins include the following:

Bin placement

Before buying the recycling bins, it’s important to know where you will be placing the bins in your facility. common and suitable areas include where a lot of waste is generated. You should also consider the type of waste being generated. For instance, schools will generate more recyclable waste than compostable waste, and in offices, recyclable paper is most common near workstations, while organic waste is generated in meeting rooms and break areas.

Having this information allows you to identify a potential area to place the bins. This identification process is important because different areas may need different recycling bin designs. For example, some facilities may require the bins to be placed against the wall, calling for rectangular bins, while in other instances, cylindrical bins may be more practical.

Bin Capacity

Once you have settled on the bins’ design, you can focus on their capacity. This is determined by the waste generated and how often you want to empty the bins. Bin capacity also depends on whether you want to use the bins outdoors or indoors.

You may also want to consider the foot traffic around where you will place the bins. The higher the foot traffic, the higher the bins’ capacity.

Bin Material

The bin material is also important when buying recycling bins. The material depends on where you want to place the bins and also the nature of the traffic. In high-traffic areas, you want the bins made out of more durable materials that can withstand the knocks and abuse that come with being in such an area. For office applications, we also have a unique selection of bins that are perfect for the office space.

Opening Shapes

When it comes to recycling bins, it’s important to encourage employees to dispose of and sort their waste correctly. One way to do this is by choosing recycling bins with restrictive opening shapes. This is in addition to the colours, which can help users understand where the different types of waste go.

Restrictive opening can be effective in helping people make the right decisions about which stream to deposit their waste in.

Colour Coding

For your recycling program to work, the people using the bins must dispose of waste correctly in the right bins. Colour-coding the bins is one way you can let people know where they should dispose of the respective waste. Additional graphics, such as labelling, can complement this to reduce non-compliance and ease the task of the recycling companies.

Besides colour coding for recycling, you can also use the colour of the recycling bins to drive publicity for your brand.

Important Additional Features to Have in Recycling Bins

Besides the important factors that you should consider when buying recycling bins, some important additional features are also worth considering that will make the bins easier and more convenient to use.

However, the features you ultimately settle on will depend on your specific needs and where you need to use the bins. Some of the additional features you should consider adding to your recycling bins include the following:

Wheels

Built-in wheels are an excellent way to make the bins easier to move into position and empty when they are full. Bins with wheels are particularly handy when you need recycling bins with a high capacity. They make the bins easy to move around during waste collection, even when they are fully loaded.

Bases

Some recycling bins have bases that allow the waste sorting bin to be mounted, making it easier to use when collecting and cleaning the bin. The bins are mounted at the right height, minimising interference during maintenance. You might consider this feature for bins placed around the photocopier, coffee machine, or workbench.

Special openings

These are the restrictive openings mentioned earlier. Not all recycling bins come with this feature. Most are only colour-coded, and in some environments, this is enough. But if you need to provide more persuasion to your employees or staff, you should go the extra mile by providing recycling bins with special restrictive openings that increase the chances of having everything go into the right place.

Lid locks and fasteners

This is a feature you should consider to add some safety and security for the recycling bins, especially if you are placing them outdoors. The purpose of having lid locks is to keep out wild animals that might come foraging inside the bins. This ensures the waste stays where it is supposed to be.

You can also consider placing coloured lids on bins in some areas within the facility to control odour and ensure the bins’ contents are not scattered
