An introduction to Hygiene Equipment
Introducing Vikan Hygiene equipment
Company Background
Vikan was founded in 1898 by A.P Pedersen in Denmark Based under the name Skive Børstefabrik factory. Up until the second world war the company mainly operated domestically in Denmark but chose to start exporting products after the end of the war under the new leadership of Pedersen’s two sons Gunnar and Carl. As the company became more well known around Europe the decision was taken to change the name of the company to something easier to pronounce universally that’s when the name Vikan was first introduced. Vikan comes from the Danish word Vi kan which translates to We can.
Over the next 50 years or so Vikan have continued to expand with new ranges of products accompanied by new factories around Europe that helped turn Vikan into the world leading supplier of Hygienic cleaning equipment. Vikan products are now available in over 90 different countries worldwide.
Products
Here at Onit direct we deal regularly with food manufacturers who need there work areas clean and hygienic in order to comply with food hygiene regulations. Our partnership with Vikan allows us to supply our customers with hygienic products that are high quality under the well-known Vikan name.
All our Vikan product range is available in multiple colours allowing customers to be able colour code their cleaning equipment to fit each need.
Why choose colour coding? Colour coding helps ensure greater food safety by making it easier to more effectively separate processes, zones and equipment in your food production setup and thus minimise cross-contamination. As a food manufacturer you want to clean certain areas with a generalised cleaning equipment, therefore you can colour code your cleaning equipment for that work area. For example, to avoid cleaning a workstation with the same brush you use to clean floors you can buy brushes for cleaning floors in green and brushes for cleaning workstations in blue to stop your workers perhaps making a mistake and causing cross contamination.

Our range of Vikan products can fill any cleaning needs. For wet environments we supply mops, pads and squeegees that effortlessly attach and detach from a handle to clean floors or clear excess water.
Our mops and pads range come in standard and hand editions. Our standard mops are designed to clean floors or large work areas whereas our hand mops and pads can be used to clean more tighter area that a regular mop may not be able to reach effectively.
We offer a wide range of squeegees each of different sizes and various application purposes. We have squeegees for cleaning floors, workstations and to tackle condensation, they range in sizes from 400mm to 700m and come in a wide range of colours.

We offer a very wide range of Brushes. We have a brush to fit every need, from brushes with very hard bristles that are used to clean thick hardened mess, to softer bristle brushes that can be used to clean light items or powders. Thick bristle brushes are used in the food industry to clean up substances that may have stuck to the floor whereas a thinner bristle brush can be used to clean up split flour or other light ingredients. Our brushes come in a very wide range of sizes, we have broom brushes from 260mm- 530mm wide alongside smaller more specialized brushes like hand brushes, dish brushes, pastry brushes, pipe brushes, powder brushes, tube brushes and premium ultra safe brushes that come with bristles moulded into the handle to reduce the risk of bristles falling out onto workstations.
To remove stubborn sticky items, we have a range of scrapers from 75mm hand scrapers to 260mm floor scrapers.
To go alongside the cleaning equipment, we also offer Buckets that can be used for storage or to hold cleaning liquids or water in.
It is also important to consider how you will store equipment when on the move. To prevent cross contamination from items being left on the floor sites can adopt a mobile cleaning station approach such as the Hygo Cleaning station. This allows multiple items such as brushes, squeegees and buckets to be transported to the required cleaning location.

As part of our Vikan range we also stock hand tools and shadow boards. Shadow boards are an essential part of a cleaning process, and they allow for cleaning equipment to be hung up off the crowd to avoid collecting dirt and germs whilst also helping maximise working space.
Here at Onit direct we pride ourselves on delivering our customers with high quality products and our partnership with Vikan means our cleaning range continues to fur fill that promise.
